The Original Mouth Tape®

Is it actually safe to tape your mouth at night?

Fair question. It sits on your skin for eight hours a night. So we did not answer it with marketing. We sent SomniFix to an independent medical lab, ran the biocompatibility tests used to clear products for medical use, and studied it in a hospital sleep lab. Here is everything, in full.

Clinical Evidence

Clinically shown to cut snoring by about 90%.

In a randomized study run at a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital, people snored dramatically less on the nights they wore SomniFix.

01 The test
26 adults slept two nights in a hospital sleep lab, one night wearing SomniFix and one night without, while equipment counted how often they snored each hour. Same person, same bed, just the strip on or off. Because every sleeper was their own comparison, the only thing that changed between the two nights was SomniFix itself, which is what makes the difference so telling.
02 The result
SomniFix cut snoring by about 90%.

03 What it means for snorers
A night of near-constant snoring became a near-silent one.
Wearing SomniFix took snoring from roughly one snore every two minutes down to almost none, for the same person, in the same bed. For some sleepers snoring dropped to near silence, and in at least one case it stopped entirely, with zero measured snoring intensity.
Zero adverse events in all 26 participants.
Randomized crossover study 26 participants Harvard teaching hospital sleep lab Registered, NCT02738255

Snoring outcome measured in simple snorers (apnea-hypopnea index under 10 events per hour); figures are median snores per hour of sleep. The study evaluated snoring and did not establish a reduction in sleep apnea severity. SomniFix is not a treatment for sleep apnea. Conducted 2016 to 2017 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, MA (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02738255).

Safety, On The Record

We did not just say it is safe. We had it tested.

Biocompatibility testing measures whether a material actually harms your body on contact: at the cellular level, on the skin, and over repeated use. Three tests, one clear standard. Here is exactly what was checked, how the scoring works, and where SomniFix landed.

Cytotoxicity
Does the material harm living cells on contact? Strips were placed in direct contact with living cells for 24 hours or more and examined under a microscope for any cell damage.
ISO 10993-5
Grade 0, None. No cell damage in any sample, the best possible result. A pass is anything below Grade 2.

Skin Irritation
Does it redden or inflame the skin? Applied to skin and graded for redness and swelling at 1, 24, 48 and 72 hours, then scored on the Primary Irritation Index.
ISO 10993-10
Index 0.0, Negligible. Zero redness, zero swelling at every check, the lowest score on the scale.

Skin Sensitization
Could it trigger an allergic reaction over repeated use? Tested through repeated patches over three weeks, then a challenge patch to check for a delayed allergic response.
ISO 10993-10
Grade 0, No sensitization. No allergic response in any subject, at either the 24 or 48 hour reading.

Before Your First Night

Designed to keep you in control all night.

Clean test scores are one half of the answer. Here is the other half, the questions real customers ask before their first night.

Won't I suffocate if my mouth is taped?
No, and it is the right question to ask. SomniFix is not a seal across your whole mouth. It is a small strip with a center breathing vent that gently keeps your lips together so you breathe through your nose, the airway your body prefers. You can open your mouth any time you need to. You stay in control the entire night.
What is actually in the adhesive?
A gentle, skin-friendly adhesive engineered for overnight wear, the same one that scored zero irritation and zero sensitization in the tests above. It holds through the night and peels away cleanly in the morning.
I have sensitive skin. Will it react?
The sensitization and irritation tests were built to answer exactly this. Across every subject and every reading, there was no redness, no swelling, and no allergic response. If your skin still does not agree with it, the 30-night guarantee has you covered.
Is this a substitute for treating sleep apnea?
No. If your snoring includes gasping or long pauses in breathing, that can signal sleep apnea and is worth a real conversation with a doctor. SomniFix complements medical care for open-mouth breathing and snoring. It does not replace it.

Not sure if you are a mouth breather? Take the 60-second quiz.

Test results reflect evaluation of the SomniFix strip against ISO 10993 biological evaluation methods for medical devices (Part 5, in vitro cytotoxicity; Part 10, irritation and skin sensitization), performed by NAMSA under FDA Good Laboratory Practice regulations (21 CFR Part 58). Grade 0 and negligible results represent the most favorable outcome on each scale. Snoring figures are from a randomized study at Brigham and Women's Hospital (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT02738255), measured in simple snorers. SomniFix is intended to support nasal breathing and reduce open-mouth snoring. It is not a treatment for sleep apnea or any medical condition. If you experience breathing pauses, gasping, or choking during sleep, consult a physician.
